LAB profiling
Language and Behaviour Profiling was developed by Roger Bailey based on specific applications from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (Meta Programs). A brief definition of NLP is this:
Each person, through genetic makeup, environmental influences and individual biochemistry has managed to program themselves to be excellent at certain things, mediocre at some and just awful at others.
If we observe and listen carefully to how a person behaves and communicates linguistically, we can glean an understanding of how, neurologically, a person puts his or her experience together to be excellent, mediocre or awful.
These Meta Programs are based on the filters that we use to make up our model of the world. They edit and shape what we allow to come in from the outside world. They also mould what comes from inside ourselves as we communicate and behave in the world.
How does this help your business?
Meta Programs are a status report on how a person responds to a given situation. Most people would agree that we behave differently when with people from work or our homes, therefore the Meta Programs are not descriptions of our personality as such, but rather a picture of how we interact within different environments or contexts.
In order to determine this in your workforce, Roger Bailey developed a set of questions by which, regardless of how people answer, their unconscious patterns are revealed in the structure of the language they use. You pay attention to how people answer, instead of what they say. In this way, you can determine what will trigger and maintain someone's motivation.
Once you know this, we can work together to get the best out of each individual member of staff as we will be gearing any change work or business ideas to each person.
There are a couple of caveats though. For example, we are not dealing with Reality here. The LAB Profile patterns reflect a person's Model of The World.
